Thigh lift surgery is a surgical procedure to restore better-proportioned contour of the thighs by reducing excess skin. Sometimes aesthetic goals cannot be achieved through fitness and weight loss alone no matter how much effort we put forth. Thigh lift surgery can help you achieve improved proportions. Dr. Barry Silberg, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for more than 30 years is pleased to offer thigh lift procedures to residents of Santa Rosa CA and to residents who travel from out of town.
Thigh lifts are not intended strictly for the removal of excess fat. Only liposuction can remove excess fat deposits where skin has good elasticity and is able to naturally conform to new body contours. Whereas thigh lifts refer to the reduction of skin that has lost its elasticity and the tightening and reshaping of underlying tissues. It may or may not be accompanied with liposuction for the removal of excess fat deposits.
Candidates for Thigh Lift Surgery:
The best candidates for thigh lift surgery are people with excess soft tissue in the thigh region and who maintain a relatively stable weight. As with any surgical procedure, it’s a big plus for candidates who are non-smokers and who maintain good habits for nutrition and fitness.
Procedure for Thigh Lift Surgery
Thigh lifts are done under either conscious sedation or general anesthesia and this is determined on a case-by-case basis and often depends on the addition of simultaneous procedures. Incision lengths and patterns will vary based on the degree of correction. A minimal incision to the groin area may work well for one candidate, while another may require a more extensive incision extending from the groin down and around the back of the thigh. The underlying tissue is tightened and reshaped and excess skin is removed.
You must have a ride home after surgery and you should plan on having someone stay with you through the first day.
Recovery from Thigh Lift Surgery
During your recovery from thigh lift surgery, dressings or bandages may be applied to your incisions. A thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin for drainage of excess fluid. You should plan for restricted activity for three weeks post-surgery.
