The thighs are among those areas of the body that can be the most difficult to trim and tone, no matter how hard you exercise and strictly you diet. You can be perfectly healthy and at or near your ideal weight, yet still find yourself burdened with thighs that, well, just won’t quit. Fortunately, body contouring was created specifically to address such issues.
Thigh lift, clinically known as thighplasty, is a body contouring procedure that targets the upper legs for patients who wish to reduce the amount of fat, cellulite, and sagging, excess skin on their thighs. Patients emerge from surgery with thinner, sleeker, sexier thighs that are more proportional to the rest of their bodies.
Dr. Barry Neil Silberg is a master of body contouring, combining finely honed surgical skills with a tasteful eye for aesthetics to produce natural-looking, cosmetically pleasing results that are ideally suited to each patient’s unique needs and goals. He uses a variety of thigh lift techniques at his Santa Rosa, CA plastic surgery practice because he understands that one size definitely does not fit all when it comes to body contouring. He adapts the most suitable technique to the individual patient, personalizing it to her one-of-a-kind body contours.

What Are the Available Thigh Lift Techniques?
There are four basic thigh lift techniques that Dr. Silberg uses at his practice. Each of these can be further modified to meet the needs of the patient. Thigh lift techniques include:
- Inner thigh lift: Inner thigh lift targets the inner part of the upper legs. Dr. Silberg makes an incision in the skin fold where the thigh comes together with the public region. He then removes a wedge of skin and, if necessary, fat from this region. Finally, he pulls the remaining skin taut and sutures the incision closed. The result is an improved leg contour with minimal signs that the patient has undergone a surgical procedure, as the scar can easily be concealed by panties or the average bikini bottom.
- Mini thigh lift: This modified version of the inner thigh lift requires only a short scar in the groin region. While it produces less dramatic results than the inner thigh lift, it also creates less scarring.
- Outer, or bilateral, thigh lift: This technique is designed to address more significant sagging of the skin and excess fat on the upper legs. It involves the creation of a “V”-shaped incision at the top of the leg that extends from the front of the leg to either the hip or even back around to the buttocks, depending on the scope of the surgery. The excess tissues are removed, the remaining skin is pulled taut, and the incision is sutured closed. Both the inner and outer parts of the upper leg are made to look smoother, trimmer, and more youthful.
- Medial thigh lift: The medial thigh lift begins with an incision similar to the inner thigh lift; however, it extends back to the buttocks or even to the hip region, depending on the scope of the surgery. If necessary, vertical incisions may also be made to allow for greater removal of fat and excess skin.
