The goal of rhinoplasty is to achieve a natural appearance with balance. Sometimes very subtle changes can result in the desired effect and the surgeon must have both an artistic sense as well as the technical skill to accomplish this. Rhinoplasty can enlarge or reduce the size of your nose, or reshape your nose bridge and nasal tip. Improving the proportions and the appearance of your nose can have a tremendous positive impact on your self confidence.
Some of the more common corrections made with rhinoplasty include adjusting the width of the bridge of the nose, straightening a crooked nose, reducing a hump, modifying a bulbous tip, or correcting exaggerated nasal flares, asymmetry or an upturned nose. Even small changes can make a huge difference to a person’s profile.
While the appearance of your nose is important, your ability to breathe is even more so. A skilled surgeon like Dr. Silberg “nose” how to protect the integrity of your breathing function while resolving whatever problems that trouble you about your nose. Afterall, a good-looking nose must also work properly. Call our office (707) 528-0911 today or submit our online form for a free consultation and one of our trained staff will be in touch promptly.
Candidates for Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
You are a good candidate for nose surgery if:
- your facial growth is complete
- you have realistic goals about the improvement of your appearance
As with any surgical procedure, it’s a big plus for candidates who are non-smokers and who maintain good habits for nutrition and fitness.
Procedure for Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
For rhinoplasty, conscious sedation is provided by an anesthesiologist at Dr. Silberg’s accredited surgical facility. The procedure typically takes approximately one and a half hours. Depending on the correction you desire, the procedure will be performed using a closed procedure, where incisions are made inside the nose, or an open procedure, where the incision is made across the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils (columella). Sometimes incisions may be made in the natural creases on the sides of the nostrils. At the conclusion of the surgery, incisions are closed.
For very large noses, it may be necessary to remove bone or cartilage. For a deviated septum, improvements for breathing are made inside the nose.
You must have a ride home after your surgery and you should plan on having someone stay with you through the first day.
Recovery from Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
After the procedure, you will be moved to a recovery area and monitored closely. Packing will likely be placed inside your nose,. A splint and bandages will be placed on the nose for support and protection during the recovery period.
Swelling will reduce within a few weeks, but very subtle changes can continue to occur for months following the surgery.
Before leaving Dr. Silberg’s office, you will be given specific instructions for aftercare and follow-up. After you have gone home, Dr. Silberg will be available 24/7 to respond to any concerns should they arise.
You should plan for restricted activity for at least a month post-surgery.
