Experience You Can Trust

Dr. Barry SilbergDr. Barry Silberg is a specialist in Cosmetic, Plastic, and Reconstructive Surgery and is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the ONLY organization representing exclusively Plastic Surgeons. This Board requires extensive training in General Surgery and completion of a full university residency-training program in Plastic Surgery.  Certification with the American Board of Plastic Surgery indicates that the surgeon has passed challenging written and oral examinations demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the specialty. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties for the certification of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Silberg is also a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), an organization devoted exclusively to advancing the science and art of cosmetic plastic surgery. Its members are a select group of board-certified plastic surgeons who have reached the highest achievement in cosmetic plastic surgery. In addition, Dr. Silberg is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. This is a title that is granted by peer surgeons only after a careful evaluation of the candidate’s training, background and professional standing. To maintain membership, a Plastic Surgeon must show evidence of continued education and excellence in the specialty.

Dr. Silberg has performed thousands of cosmetic surgeries incorporating leading edge technologies and state-of-the-art techniques and he has been a lecturer and teacher for cosmetic surgeons worldwide, having taught throughout the U.S., France, South America, and Asia. Dr. Silberg has also volunteered with Rotoplast in the Philippines performing cleft lip surgery on dozens of children.

Dr. Silberg has served several terms as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. As a service to the local community, Dr. Silberg serves as a member of the Level II Trauma Team at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital treating patients who have sustained serious and complex injuries as the result of an accident.

Local pediatrician, Dr. David Smith, told that Dr. Silberg is rare among plastic surgeons: “Many are quick to boast of their trips to Africa to mend cleft palates, but when you have a kid who’s been facially disfigured by a dog bite, they can’t seem to make it to the hospital here. I know Dr. Silberg has done the foreign trips, too, but he’s also quick to show up when there’s a serious problem locally. He’s not one of those who’ve gone over to ‘the green side.” (

State-of-the-art Techniques

Dr. Silberg invented the Silberg Tissue Preparation System, which was FDA cleared in 2003 and which is now used worldwide. The technique makes surgery and liposuction less traumatic by super-hydrating the tissue, which makes it looser and prevents exposure dehydration. This results in a better overall result, faster recovery, less bruising and discomfort, and lower risk of postoperative complications. In addition to its use in plastic surgery, the Silberg Tissue Preparation System is being used in a current FDA and IRB approved clinical study at Sonoma West Medical Center for a new way of delivering antibiotics directly to the target tissue.

Dr. Silberg is the founder of the Santa Rosa Antibiotic Effectiveness Project, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that has been formed to advance the science of drug delivery. He is also the founder of Sonescence, Inc., which is currently conducting an FDA and IRB approved clinical study at Sonoma West Medical Center. See articles about Dr. Silberg at NorthBay Biz, North Bay Business Journal, and Pacific Health Magazine.
